After finishing college, Gilbert moved to London in 1967 to try and further his musical career.  Gilbert signed a five year publishing contract with CBS which called for one single a year, and released two singles “Disappear”/”You” in 1967 and “What Can I Do”/”You” in 1968.
Gilbert came to the attention of BBC Radio 1 disc jockey, John Peel, who gave him a slot on his radio show Top Gear and O’Sullivan spent part of 1969 applying to other record labels and management companies.  It was at this time that Gilbert formulated his ‘Bisto Kid’ image; grey flannel suit, flat cap, school boy tie, football socks and hobnail boots.
Gilbert made an irresistible impression with “Nothing Rhymed”, his first Top 10 hit and an introduction to his witty lyrics and original approach as a singer/songwriter.  Signed to MAM Records, O’Sullivan enjoyed four years of major success, incorporating a dozen more hit singles, ten of which reached the UK Top 10, and four Top 5 albums: “Himself” (1971), “Back To Front” (1972), “I’m A Writer Not A Fighter” (1973) and “A Stranger In My Own Back Yard” (1974).
Both “Clair” and “Get Down” were number one hit singles in Britain, and additionally, “Back To Front” topped the UK LP chart in 1972, emulating the success of the two million seller “Alone Again (Naturally)”, a six week US chart-topper in 1972.

Between then and now, he recorded about 11 new albums, including the UK Top 20 single, “What’s In A Kiss?” in 1981, and toured extensively in Europe and Japan.

Gilbert travelled to Nashville in March 2009 to record new tracks for his new album “Gilbertsville” which will be released on 31 January 2011.  The idea for the title was prompted by a photograph that was taken in Iowa by Gilbert’s brother Terry. Apparently the photograph shows a road sign that points to a town called Raymond, which is Gilbert’s real name, and also points to another town called Gilbertville.

The album features 14 tracks with an interlude halfway through which will feature UK comedian Harry Hill reciting a short poem of Gilbert’s.  Harry previously appeared in the

promotional video for “Two’s Company (Three Is Allowed)”.  The 14 tracks are made up of 13 new tracks that were recorded in Nashville and in London and a hidden track called “School Meals” that was recorded during the A Scruff at Heart sessions but has been remixed with drums being added to the track.

Her abilities as a guitarist have garnered the admiration of many in the music industry including Michelle Shocked who called Robin “one of the best guitarists in the country: male or female.” She has shared the stage most recently with the likes of Colin Hay (Men At Work) and Maia Sharp.  Already having self-released four solo records, 2010 sees Robin release her new album Everything Has Changed which bridges the gap between passionate acoustic music and gutsy rock n’ roll. For this album, Janet teamed up with producer John Carter Cash (Johnny Cash, June Carter Cash, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band) at Cash Cabin Studios outside of Nashville.

The son of Johnny and June, Carter Cash was a producer on the Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line and produced several records with his father as well as a Grammy Award winning record for June. Built by Johnny in 1979, this studio is where the country legend recorded much of his later work including his final recording, American V: A Hundred Highways, which was released posthumously and co-produced by Rick Rubin and John Carter.

“We have talked at great length about this project and he understands my desire and vision to record an album that is representative of the energy brought out in my live performances,” Robin says of Carter Cash. “It’s just great to work with a producer that lets me be myself, yet brings out the best in my work. There weren’t many restraints working with John and the vibe and history at Cash Cabin is overwhelmingly inspiring. John seems to ‘get me.’”

“New Year’s Day” HYP10273

Long before Kevin Bacon launched his prolific stage and screen career, and before Michael Bacon became known as a “go-to” composer for film and television, they were just two brothers, born nine years apart, coming of age in Center City, Philadelphia. The record, is laden with the brothers’ trademark gritty rock and a touch of Philly soul, and harkens back to those roots in the City of Brotherly Love, when life was less complicated and music filled the air.

The album kicks off with “New Year’s Day,” a song that, whilst drawing upon Kevin’s experiences, isn’t necessarily about him.  “’New Years Day’ is from the perspective of a kid, 18 or 19, who’s left Philadelphia for Los Angeles to pursue his dream of stardom, but is pining to get back to Philly for the Mummers Parade,” says Kevin, who has attended Philadelphia’s elaborate New Year’s celebration many times.  “L.A. is the land of the endless summer, and everything is so beautiful  but there’s something still inherent in me that’s left over from Philadelphia, which is cold and provincial, but in a great way.”

The infectious second track, “Go My Way” with its laid-back, shuffling soulful groove, is also written from a character’s perspective.  “It’s a guy who’s younger than me, single and living alone in New York, not doing very well and struggling with his life,” Kevin observes.  “Then this one woman keeps popping up in his life and elevates his sorry existence for a time.”

With 2009 marking 14 years of the Bacon Brothers band’s existence, any cynical preconceptions about well-known actors “dabbling” in music now can safely be discarded.

The New Yorker recently observed:  “Hollywood hangs like an albatross around the neck of any movie star turned musician, but this duo shakes off the burden of fame with sharply executed rock that has a blue-collar, rootsy edge.”
